The Fruitful Potager

Asparagus officinalis  Purple spears which as the name suggests contain more sugars than the green variety.  Spears are also larger than green varieties and tender.  Plant in a well manured bed with all perennial weeds removed.  Asparagus beds can produce for upto 20 years if well looked after. Good drainage is essential to success. Hardy perennial. Open pollinated. 35cm  Pot of 3 crowns.
